Above Edensor

Edensor village was demolished from its original site by the Derwent (except for one house) as it spoilt
the Duke of Devonshire's view from Chatsworth of his estate landscaped to the design of Joseph Paxton and rebuilt on a site he chose to designs by young Derby architect, John Robertson, who brought a variety of possible designs and the Duke of Devonshire chose them all

The result is a curious mixture of styles. Perhaps most successful is the relatively simple former vicarage
'Debo' the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire - one of the Mitford sisters - now lives in the village.
The church was rebuilt by George Gilbert Scott around 30 years later in 1861
