Students Against Cuts - Day 3

Russell Squareto Parliament Square, London. Thursday 9 Dec 2010
 
 I watched the first five thousand or so marchers go past in Russell Square, but didn't see the end of the march

 

 Police try to stop students who ran ahead of the main banner down Kingsway

 

 

 Quite a few got through before police grappled with others and formed a line across the road

 

 

  One policeman fell and was slightly injured
 


But the police line didn't hold and they made no attempt to stop the main body of the march 

Few of the students knew that this was the agreed route to Parliament Square, and many thought they had outwitted a police attempt to stop them 
      
Other than briefly in Kingsway I saw no attempt by police to stop the marchers reaching Parliament Square,
though later they apparently did so , though it wasn't at all clear why
