Enough Is Enough - Abolish Vivisection

Embankment and Battersea Park, London. Saturday 24 Sept 2011

There were fewer marchers than expected and the protest went along the wide pavement

There were many more police than needed - one or two would have been plenty

I left the marchers to look for the Brown Dog statue in Battersea Park, where some of them had met earlier in the day

There I found a woman still on her way to join the march reading the long text on the plinth

Public outrage over the vivsection of 'the brown dog' led to riots in 1907,
and an ornate monument erected not far from the present one was
demolished at dead of night by the local council because of the controversy
and unrest it caused. Perhaps why this one is so well hidden and without
any signs pointing to it?
