Halloween Protest Over Dictator Debt

Dept of Business, Innovation and Skills, London. Mon 31 Oct 2011

Dictators may go but their countries keep their debts, often crippling

Money may have been spent on arms to repress the people and the people have to keep on paying

Or the debts may be the other side of millions corrupt dictators have transferred to Swiss bank accounts

Our government encourages governments of almost any country to buy UK arms - and lends them the cash
The debts are huge, crippling to many countries such as Iraq, Indonesia, Egypt etc

The protest at Halloween asked BIS Minister Vince Cable 'What skeletons are in the government's cupboard?'

Vince doesn't really have such a big head as this!

The Jubilee Dept campaign wants a public audit of outstanding export credit guarantee debts

and for the government to to cancel those debts found to be unjust.

They also want them to adopt a list of prohibited activities for which loans will not be given in future

including arms deals and fossil fuel and other environmentally damaging projects.

There were some carefully cut pumpkin lanterns spelling out the message 'Drop Egypts Debt'

and lights behind the long banner that siad 'Drop Dictator Debts!'

And one of the rare pictures of my wife (on the right.)
