Staines march for flood victim Zane

Staines, Spelthorne. Tue 21 Oct 2014

Spelthorne Chief Executive Roberto Tamborini holds the petition and poses for photographs

Spelthorne is riddled with gravel pits, some filled in, others left as lakes, some used for fishing or boating

If Spelthorne agreed to fully investigate the site and found it had been the cause of Zane's death, there could

be calls to take a proper look at other sites in the borough, which could be very expensive. The Staines area

suffered considerably in the floods, and almost certainly had been put in greater danger by flood relief schemes

upstream such as the Jubilee River, which diverts water away from wealthy Maidenhead, carrying it more quickly

downriver towards Staines. Flood relief schemes for the Staines area, rather more working class, have been judged by the authorities to be too expensive.

Kye Gbangbola spoke eloquently about the death of Zane and the issues involved

and thanked all those who had come to the protest.
