Good Friday in Staines

Staines, Middx. Fri 3 Apr 2015

It was raining slightly as people met at the Methodist Church

Some were carrying carefully wrapped Hot Cross Buns to give away with serviettes printed with a message about them

One man was pressed into carrying the cross

and led the procession, in front of the Salvation Army band from Ashford

 Church leaders followed

and then a long line of people from the various congregations in Staines

The procession went up Thames St by the side of Debenhams

and turned into the High St

A piece of sculpture celebrates that Staines used to be the major producer of linoleum

There was the usual Friday market in the Hight St

The man carrying the cross got rather ahead of the band as he turned into Norris Road past the mosaic coat of arms
