Silverdale Holiday

Silverdale, Lancashire. Sun 23 Aug 2015

  
 
 On Sunday we walked down to The Cove before breakfast

 

 

 and up on to the fields at the top

We came back after breakfast and went down to the beach - this is Red Rake, once mined in search of Haematite and copper ores

 the tide was lower and it was now easier to walk past

 We went as far as another red outcroup, then went back to walk over the top

 Where there is a veiw of Know End Point

Woodwell  
      
Trough at Woodwell, and steep steps up the cliff. I went the wrong way at the top into Scout Wood, where I almost walked into a sleeping owl. It was so
close I felt a draught and heard the noise of wings as a brown and white blur sped away through the branches, settling in a tree about 10 yards ahead. I moved closer to get a proper look and as I was perhaps 5 yards away it took off again and I got a clear view. Birding friends tell me it was probably a tawny owl..

 The area is noted for orchids, but this was the closest I came to seeing one on the village hall (the Gaskell Memorial Hall.)

After lunch came back down to tThe Cove and walked along the beach to The Shore

There was a small area of grass 

The Shore 

and walked up from The Shore to Lindeth Rd 

and had an ice cream at Gibraltar Farm, which has a large campsite
