Phulbari coal mine protest

Mayfair, London. Fri 18 Dec 2015

Protesters meet outside the impressive building of the Royal Aeronautical Society in Mayfair

and show banners outside the building against open-pit mining in Phulbari
Socialist Party of Bangladesh (Marxist) placards

And the 'Notice of Closure!' the protesters intended to hand in to the AGM

Spoons bashed together to make some noise

No one went in to go to the meeting in the 90 minutes I was outside - the company shares are now almost worthless

shouting slogans

The large banners were from the Committee to Protect Oil Gas and Natural Resources in Bangladesh, UK Branch

Other placards were stuck over those from the Socialist Party which was also supporting the protest

With a slight spelling misake - it should have read 'No Bloodshed for Coal', a reminder ot the three killed and hundreds injuried in protests in Phulbari

'No to Coal fire - Dirty Energy'. Bangladesh still plans to build coal-fired power stations but will import coal

though perhaps after the Paris conference they will change towards a greater reliance on solar energy generation

rather than follow a path to development based on outmoded technologies, especially as solar continues to rapidly

become cheaper than carbon-based power generation

Still no one had apparently arrived for the AGM which should have started thrity minutes earlier.
Despite a flashy and upbeat annual report the company would appear to have no future.
