IWGB Picket Southwark Court

Southwark Crown Court, London. Mon 1 Feb 2016

The cleaners had arrived at 9am, but I only arrived in time to have lunch

After lunch the protesters handed out plastic trumpets and placards

and began another session of noisy protest

 accompanied by drums

Some wore arm bands with the message 'IWGB Official Picket'

Alberto Durango, IWGB President lets everyone around know why the cleaners are protesting

and leads them in some loud chanting of slogans based on their demand for a real living wage

 and proper treatment by management

The plastic horns (trumpets or vuvuzelas) can make a very loud noise

Because of their low pay, many cleaners have to work several jobs to make a iiving

Much office cleaning takes place at unsocial hours, but some were working during the dayand were expected

to come later, with the protest expected to be larger at 4-5pm as people were leaving the court

IWGB President Alberto Durango. The IWGB is a grass roots worker-led union with no paid staff
