Basingstoke Canal Walk

Brookwood to Ash Vale, Surrey.Mon 28 Mar 2016

From Brookwood station yard you simply walk across the main road and down a side road to reach the canal

A pill-box that has been recently restored

one of the many locks on this section

A canal bridge just below a lock

The land to the north of the canal here is mainly owned by the Army

There are smaller lakes and ditches in the narrow strip between canal towpath and the main line railway

Linda finds a good place to stop and picnic

Grenadier Guards built the wall. They used to train soldiers to swim in comat gear in the canal

One of the flooded valleys next to the canal

There is a small dry dock next to this canalside cottage at Lock 28, though it was full of water at the moment
