	Revealing thoufh SLahi's 'Guantanamo Diary' is, there are still pages that were almost entirely redacted - censored by the US authorities. There is so much they have to hide about Guantanamo, a deeply shameful blot on US democracy. Slahi in the 1990s was a part of US backed activities in Afghanistan against the then communist government but claimed to have severed all ties to them in the early 1990s. A US Judge ordered he be released in 2010, but the US Dept of Justice appealed the case. His memoirs were hand-written in English in 2005-6, and a heavily redacted version was declassified in 2012 Published in 2015, his Guatnamo Diary became an international best-seller. His tortures at Guantanmo included being taken to sea for a mock execution as well as isolation, temperature extremes, beatings and sexual humiliation.
	After protesting outside the US Embassy, some of those present went on to protest at Marble Arch, where many more members of the public, mainly tourists, were able to see them and take the postcards they were handing out. Slahi is one of around 80 detainees still held in Gunatanamo, despite Obama's promise to close it down.
