I got off the bus on Mare St, close to 'The Last Tuesday Society' You can see a picture from more or less this position in 1983 on >RE:PHOTO I took quite a few pictures around here in the 1980s but nothing like this and there are new buildings by the canal The Hoxton Mini Press was hosting the event at F. Cooke - and a short speech invited us to buy the books F Cooke has been here since 1900. One of the few survivors from the 1980s For the evening it was serving books not eels The beer was Five Points Pale, a craft beer brewed in a railway arch at Hackney Downs a short walk away, and surprisingly drinkable. Though some in this picture preferred to bring their own. The lollies were nice too. |

I walked back towards Mare St Ada St workshops date from 1965-6. Architect Sir Hubert Bennett, (1909-2000), but I didn't stop to take a good picture Beck Rd, once home of Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti often gets used for filming and appears in a number of music videos For some years Beck Rd was a unique artists ghetto with almost the entire street managed by Acme Housing Association who managed many short-life properties then intended for demolition and was home to many well-known artists Houses here now sell for around a million pounds. Back in Bethnal Green, it was also the opening night for the Triumph Pavilion 2016:Energy Pavilion but I was too late for the opening in Museum Gardens and it was almost deserted when I arrived Suddenly things went upside down. I went home. |
