Silent Walk for Grenfell Tower
Notting Hill, London. Tue 14 Nov 2017
A large symbo with the message 'TRUTH''
Numbers grow rapidly as the march gets ready to start
at its front Zeyad Cred and also local clergy and the messages 'TRUTH',
'UNITY' ' GRENFELL'
The burnt out shell of Grenfell Tower looms behind the marchers as
they observe a minute of silence
and then start the slow march
going east towards Ladbroke Grove
At Ladbroke Grove firefighters stand in respect next to their fire
engine
and the marchers pause in silent remembrance
They move slowly on in silence towards the Maxilla Centre, but I stay
on Ladbroke Gove
as the rest of the thousand or more marchers go past
At the back of the march are the more political groups such as the
Revolutionary Communist Group, demanding
answers and demanding justice and truth.
and for the guilty to be brought to account. Everyone worries that
there will be the usual establishment cover-up
with the councillors and others who made Grenfell into a major fire
risk escaping justice. As usual the enquiry will
be used to delay prosecutions until it is too late, and its conclusions
will be accepted with great publicity but not
actually followed up in any way, perhaps just a few token actions,
while the victims and the needs of those who
survived will be quietly forgotten. But many are determined that this will
not happen. But they will need to keep up
the unity and keep up the fight. Already some say "Don't make it political",
but it is highly political, and unless
the fight is political it will not get anywhere.
