 Sally Hunt, UCU. THe universities thought the union would never get support for the strike, but there were

 large turnouts for the secret ballots, with high percentages voting for striking, depsite the restrictive trade union laws

 

 Frances O'Grady, John McDonnell (mainly hidden0 at left behind Sally

 John McDonnell came to the microphone and greeted us all in Russian, joing about the gutter press trying to

 smear him and Jeremy Corbyn as communist spies.

 He pledged Labour's full support to the strikers, and their intention to get rid of unfair laws limiting the actions of

 the trade unions.

 Frances O'Grady praises the way that Sally Hunt and the UCU are fighting to keep the pension scheme that

 members have paid into.

 

 Shadow Secretary of State for Education Angela Rayner MP praises NUS President Shakira Martin who has just left the stage

 and again pledges Labour support for the pensions campaign and to protect education from the excessive

 marketisation which lies behind the position of the universities

 

 Gordon Marsden MP, Shadow Minister for HE, FE and Skills

 

 

 Kevin Courtney NEU General Secretary gives the support of his union for the HE and FE strikers
