CAIWU Mayday Mayhem at Royal Opera

Royal Opera, Covent Garden, London. Tue 1 May 2018

CAIWU and supporters have been touring London to protest at various sites where they are in dispute

 'Real Living Wage Now!!!'

The bus stops in Wellington St and they get off to go to the Royal Opera House in Bow St

Cleaners at the Royal Opera House are employed by Kier, a company notorious for blacklisting trade unionists

and they start a noisy protest in front of the Royal Opera house

They have new posters calling Kier and the Royal Opera House liars

'Royal Opera HOuse: LIARS! Giving with one hand, taking with the other'

A man comes and abuses Alberto for fighting for workers rights despite not being British.

Alberto and the rest of us are apalled by this racist abuse

 Alberto Durango

'KierL LIARS! Blacklisting Trade Unionists for over 30 Years'

A police officer speaks to Albeto in a very aggresive manner

but Alberto keeps calm and ignores the provocation.
The officer seems to have forgotten that the police are supposed to facilitate protests and not take sides

Like the other protests CAIWU have taken part in this was meant to be short - they have had a long day - and soon

Alberto is bringing it to an end with his usual promise that 'We'll be back'

I run for the tube. It's been a long day for me too, but there is just one more event I want to cover.
