Knife crime campaigners Operation Shutdown

Whitehall, London. Wed 17 Apr 2019

Relatives of those who have died from gun and knife crime held a rally opposite Downing St. Many wore t-shirts

with pictures of sons, uncles, nephews and close friends who had been murdered

They want the government to take urgent action. To increase penalities, enact new laws, restore the cuts to essential services.

Reality TV star Sandi Bogle's her nephew was stabbed to death in Croydon two years ago

Most of those killed were young black men, but its now affecting all communities - and women as well as men are dying

Various groups have been campaigning - and Operation Shutdown aims to bring their efforts together to

 Stop The Violence.

Cuts in the youth service and other local authority provisions due to austerity are blamed - and they cally for

a restoration of these to pre-austerity levels, as well as restoring cuts in policing.

 They say, 'Enough is Enough'

After the rally they begin to march, carrying two wreaths in front of the banners

a drummer in front of the marchers as they turn from Parliament Square into Bridge St
