UFFC 21st remembrance procession

Westminster, London. Sat 26 Oct 2019

People meet in Trafalgar Square for the annual remembrance procession for those who have died in custody

Marcia Rigg, whose brother Sean Rigg was killed by police in Brixton in 2008 holds a poster listing a few of

those who have been killed and then speaks briefly before the march

She holds a poster showing a picture of her brother and the message 'No More Deaths in Custody - No Justice No Peace'

 People listen as she speaks

Stephanie Lightfoot-Bennet whose twin brother Leon Patterson died in a police cell in Stockport. An inquest

in April 1993 resulted in a verdict of unlawful killing but this was quashed after police appealed to the High Court

A banner shows the faces of six men who have been killed by police

'If any other group killed more than 1 person a week would we be OK with that? Police Kill'

The main banner 'United Families and Friends Campaign - No More Deaths in Custody'

Winston Augustine died in HMP Wormwood Scrubs in August 2018

People were also marching today against police killings in Lyon

The march begins, walking slowly down to Downing St

'Justice for John Gardiner - Died in Police Custody on 10th May 1996' during his arrest in Blackburn

 The march goes down Whitehall

'Build Youth Centres Not Prisons - Protect Kids from the Police'

Banners show photographs of some of the thousands who have died in custody

Jimmy Mubenga, killed by security guards on a forced deporotation flight. 17 year old student Komang Jack
Susianta drowned in the River Lea in 2015 after being chased by police. They stopped others from trying to save him.

Marcia Rigg leads the chanting as the march goes down Whitehall; "Who are the murderers?" and the crowd

 reply "Police are the Murderers".

 'Police Have Licence To Kill'

Family members speak at Downing St

Police told lies about his mother who was killed by a speeding police car

Although thousands have died under suspicious circumstances since 1990, not one of those responsible have
been convicted of murder or manslaughter.
