'hands off my friend' was the slogan adopted by the committee to defend asylum seekers in their demonstration outside the home office about the unfair treatment of asylum seekers.
unfortunately the government seem to be turning a deaf ear to these pleas.
bashing asylum seekers seems to be adopted as a populist measure by the current government, who are determined to show they can be even more harsh in this respect than the conservatives.
there are times when i'm ashamed to be british, and listening to the accounts of some of the shabby treatment we give to people who are in real need was one of them.
i also wonder what the point of voting labour is, when the government seem to have lost all of the ideals that once motivated the movement, and simply being concerned with staying in power.
