Lacock and Lacock Abbey

Lacock, Wiltshire. Monday 20 August, 2007
Lacock Abbey is a National Trust property, and this photograph and others in its grounds were taken on an amateur basis. These images are still copyright, but unlike others on this site they are not available for reproduction.

William HF Talbot made the first photographic negative of this window in August 1835, 172 years before I took this image. He set his camera on the top of a cupboard a little to one side of where I stood, and probably left it there for an hour or so. My exposure was 1/320 second.

The abbey was founded in 1232, and much of the original abbeybuildings remain, including the cloisters
