Circle the City: Christian Aid Sponsored Walk

City of London, Sunday 17 May, 2009

The organ and splendid roof of St Botolphs, Aldgate, architect George Dance the Elder

Time for a short rest while Linda reads the details

There is an annual founders day service by the Sir John Cass's Foundation at St. Botolph without Aldgate in February

  More greenery at Devonshire Square

St Botolph's Bishopsgate was demolished and rebuilt in 1729, architect s James Gould and George Dance

From there we went to All Hallows on the Wall, by George Dance the Younger. Then a city alley took the walk to the next check point

outside the post-war Dutch Church (1950) which replaced an older building destroyed in the war

The along Throgmorton Street to St Margaret Lothbury

Another Wren church, though the crowded site and its shpae add interest

Then on past the Bank of England and Sir John Soane

to Wren's St Lawrence Jewry

And finally to Wren's St Anne and St Agnes, unusually in the form of a Greek Cross

From St Anne and St Agnes we returned briefly to get signed off at our starting point
