	Walks around Staines Staines - Thorpe - St Ann's Hill - Chertsey etc. 28 Dec 2013
	We took a path going south towards Green Lane, to the west of another lake past a rusting gas cylinder To Green Lane Norlands power plant creates over 8,000 MWh a year from landfill gas - and emits around 2,500 tonnes of CO2 There is a large industrial/commercial park on the north of Green Lane Thorpe is an old village with some fine houses of historical interest - Renalds Herne, an 18th-century house. but much of the village (and its name means village) is now a part of the American School in Surrey which does keep its property looking good.
	The church was closed, but has several seats around the churchyard, and one was in the sun for us to sit and eat lunch Behind the church over the top of a wall we could see this hobbit house Bits of the church date from the 12th century or possibly earlier and its foundations are said to be on Roman and pre-Roman. The pub looked sadly up-market but we didn't have time to investigate as days are short in December
