Ash Wednesday Act of Resistance

Defence Ministry, London. Wed 5 March 2014

Bruce Kent was among those attending the liturgy of prayer and resistance against the deployment of weapons of mass destruction

People come together for the start of the liturgy

and stand in a circle in the Embankment gardens

A woman holds a cross. Others have banners and placards

The liturgy is introduced. There is a copy on the Pax Christi web site

 Water is blessed

and poured onto the charocal which will be used to make crosses on the foreheads of those taking part

Marking people's heads with a cross

There was a silent procession to the pavement opposite the Ministry of Defence

where there were more readings and prayers

People took purple ribbons and tied them to the cross

The ribbons were "in memory of a place/people in need of peace"

The procession then moved slowly and in silence to the end of the road, crossed and walked back
to the Ministry of Defence.
