March to Stop Edmonton Incinerator

London, 25 Sept 2021

more pictures

People at a rally before the march to the Edmonton incinerator against plans by the North London Waste Authority to build a larger incinerator costing £1.2bn on the site in one of London's more deprived areas, increasing air pollution which already breaches legal limits. It would put 700,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, incompatible with net zero targets. Incineration discourages recycling and around half of waste now burnt could be recycled.

They marched along the North Circular Road, blocking traffic to the incinerator plant entrance were they held another rally blocking the road there.

Resist DSEI: Stop Arming Israel

East Ham, London, 12th Sept 2021

more pictures

A rally in East Ham called for an end to the world’s largest arms fair, Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) and for arms supply to Israel to stop. The Israeli state, an oppressive regime imposing an apartheid military control over Palestinians, is prominent in DSEI and Israel companies promote their weapons as battle tested against Palestinians in Gaza. Among those taking part were Neturei Karta ultra-orthodox Jews who oppose Zionism and a Jewish state and support a free Palestine.

Battle For Brick Lane

London, 12th Sept 2021

more pictures

A rally with people in funeral black in Altab Ali Park protested against plans to build an ugly shopping mall with four floors of corporate offices on the Truman Brewery site. The Spitalfields Trust say it is too big and too tall, offers nothing for local people and will undermine the authentic cultural quality of Brick Lane.

They then set off in a silent march up Brick Lane which ended beside the Truman Brewery site where there were more speeches.

Festival of Resistance - Shut Down DSEI

London, Sept 11th 2021

more pictures

People came to the protest camp against the Defence and Security Equipment International arms fair which starts next week for a day of music, performance, art and actions. DSEi is the biggest arms fair in the world and companies will sell bombs and other weapons to military delegations from conflict zones and repressive regimes with the blessing of the UK government.

Some sat on the road leading to the East gate of ExCel and were joined by a large group of protesters riding bicycles, who road around the roundabout several times before stopping.

After helping block the gates for some time, the cyclists rode away and I met them again coming around the Royal Victoria Dock towards the roundabout at the West gate, where they again helped others to block the gate, riding around the roundabout a number of times defying police who tried to stop them before leaving.

Stop DSEI Arms Fair Migration Day

London, 9th Sept 2021

more pictures

Campaigners against the DSEI arms fair in east London, one of the largest arms fairs in the world hold a workshop blocking one carriageway of the road on a day of solidarity with migrants, many of whom are refugees from wars, calling for migrants to be welcomed rather than arms dealers. Two protesters locked together and another two hung down from a bridge over the road on ropes and it took some time for police to clear the area.

Later police forcibly move a small group of campaigners who have been protesting close to the West entrance to Excel Centre where the DSEI arms fair in east London, one of the largest arms fairs in the world is due to open next week. Police moved them over 200 yards away saying that Seagull Lane and Western Gateway were private road on which they can not protest.
